A BRIEF HISTORY AND INTRODUCTION

The club was opened in the 1920’s and known as The Empire hall.  For many years the Club was owned by the Ashbrook family until they sold it to local business people for around £1000.00.

In 1947 it became a private members’ club and, up until the 1970’s, it was a male only establishment with women only being allowed in on a Saturday night.  This rule was changed and women were later given the right to become full members and as such could then apply to join the Committee.

Many changes have been made over the past few years with many improvements to the Club being carried out by Committee members and Club members alike.

Through the years, it has had many different breweries:

  • Greenalls
  • Carlsberg/Tetley
  • Bass
  • Coors
  • Innbev

The Club has had its share of financial problems to when Bass took over from Carlsberg/Tetley in April 1992 when the total debt stood at £330,000.  The position is now very much improved and the Club’s finances are now secure, special thanks goes to Tommy Yeadon (pictured above) who's part in this could never be over estimated.

In 1995 the Club introduced a 10 year membership which has proved very popular with many members.

2008 saw the club securing a 10 year lease on the bowling green formerly attached to The Farmers Arms and with this the Club changed to a Sports and Social Club.

The Club supports many sporting and leisure sections including darts, pool, dominoes, fishing, bowling, dance, keep fit, bingo.
These sections can be visited via the section buttons on the right

The Club also has an extensive Catering Service giving exceptional value for all budgets, details of which can be found on the Catering button at the top
